[LM_NET Listserv] [WLMA Listserv FAQ]

The official WLMA listserv is wlma@lists.psesd.org. It is a moderated list for WLMA members. You may subscribe to try it for 30 days before becoming a member by requesting a trial from Craig Seasholes (school or home).

Email address:

(required) Your name:

  • To join: email join-wlma@lists.psesd.org and leave the subject line blank or fill in the blanks above and click "Subscribe." Because of listserv spamming, all subscribes and unsubscribes are moderated and approved.

  • Please ask your school district IT department to put wlma@lists.psesd.org on their "white list" of permissible addresses, so your listserv email is not blocked as spam.

  • To post a message: email wlma@lists.psesd.org

  • Archives can be viewed.

  • To ask questions, email Craig Seasholes (cseasholes@giddensschool.org or seasholes@earthlink.net ), the listserv moderator and administrator.

  • The default setting is MAIL which means you receive all messages as individual emails sent from the group

  • Other options include:

    • DIGEST: Receive all of the daily messages in one email. You get all of the previous day's messages in one message.

    • MIME Digest: Receive all of the daily messages in one email in MIME format. With MIME, each message is received as an attachment to the email.

    • INDEX: Receive a daily index of the subject lines of the messages of the day. You can then request specific messages.

    • NOMAIL: Don't receive list contributions to your email address. You can still send messages to the list.

  • To change your subscriber type, send an email to lyris@lists.psesd.org with the message set wlma [subscriber type]. For example, set wlma index to receive one message per day with the subject lines of the messages (not the actual messages.)

  • The web committee has set up some basic information at the WLMA listserv FAQ.

  • Listserv moderator/administrator job description

  • Please contact Chris Keyes-Back with questions about the supervisor's mailing list. The supervisor's Yahoo list was discontinued in October 2005. The wlma@yahoo.com group was discontinued in May 2005.

LM_NET Archive
For those who don't have time to subscribe to LM_NET, but still want to occasionally read what school librarians are discussing, the LM_NET Archive is a great stop. Look for messages with the word HIT: in the subject line for collections of ideas from subscribers.

Section 1.0 Introduction

1.1 What is WLMA?

The Washington Library Media Association is the association for school library media specialists and support staff in Washington State. WLMA membership averages 1200 people from all regions of the state and all levels of K-20 libraries. More information about the history and current practices of WLMA can be found on the WLMA website: http//:www.wlma.org

1.2 What is the purpose of the WLMA listserv?

The listserv is a communication tool for WLMA members. The discussion is generally limited to topics of interest to teacher-librarians and library support staff. Topical events and deadlines are sent out. Members ask questions and opinions about decisions within their schools. WLMA leadership sends reminders and members send information about current topics in the state and nation concerning teacher-librarians and school libraries.

Section 2.0 Subscriptions and Posting to the Listserv

2.1 Subscribing to the WLMA listserv

Email join-wlma@lists.psesd.org and leave the subject line blank. Please include your real name since only WLMA members can join the listserv and the name will be verified. The default setting is MAIL which means you receive all messages as individual emails sent from the group. You can prevent most e-mail filters from deleting wlmalist postings by adding wlma@lists.psesd.org to your e-mail address book.

2.2 Unsubscribing to the WLMA listserv

Go to the Puget Sound ESD listserv management website at http://nsl.psesd.org/read/login/ and log in using the email address where you receive the WLMA listserv messages. Click on the tab "My Forums" and then click the "Unsubscribe" button next to WLMA.

2.3 Temporarily stopping mail from the WLMA listserv

Send an email from the address where you receive WLMA listserv messages to lyris@lists.psesd.org with the message ?set wlma NOMAIL?. You will not receive list contributions to your email address. You can still send messages to the list. If you have set up a vacation note for your email address, please set NOMAIL for the WLMA listserv because every message will send an answer back to the moderator to delete.

2.4 Other mail options

* DIGEST: Receive all of the daily messages in one email. You get all of the previous day's messages in one message.
* MIME Digest: Receive all of the daily messages in one email in MIME format. With MIME, each message is received as an attachment to the email.
* INDEX: Receive a daily index of the subject lines of the messages of the day. You can then request specific messages.

2.5 Posting to the WLMA listserv

Email wlma@lists.psesd.org with your message. Please include a meaningful subject line and a signature including your name, email address and job title (see 2.7 Signature Files for more information). Including a descriptor in your subject line such as JOB, QUESTION, GRANT are very helpful. Please include the grade level in the subject line, such as ELEM, HS, etc., if that is important to the message. These messages are moderated so it may be up to a day before your message is sent out to the listserv members.

2.6 Archives

Anyone can view the archives of this listserv at http://nsl.psesd.org/read/?forum=wlma

2.7 Signature files

Because the messages to the listserv are sent out to the group from the WLMA listserv address, please include your name, email address and occupation/job title/location as a signature file on every email sent to the listserv. If you are not sure how to make a signature file search your favorite Internet engine with the name of your email program (GroupWise, Outlook, Entourage, etc.) and ?signature.?

2.8 Copyright and message posting reminder

Messages posted to the WLMA listserv are archived in our own archives. Keep in mind that messages you send to this list may be accessed by the general public. All postings to the WLMA listserv are protected under copyright law.
