2008 WASHINGTON LIBRARY MEDIA ASSOCIATION
SCHOLARSHIPS
for use summer quarter 2008 through spring quarter of 2009
Student Grant-in-Aid - $1,000 This scholarship is available to a Washington State undergraduate in a degree program who is interested in library media training and will work in a school.
WLMA Memorial Award - $1,000 This scholarship is available to a Washington State resident with a bachelor's degree who is working toward a school library media endorsement or higher degree in the library information science field.
WLMA Award- $1,000 This scholarship is available to a Washington State resident who is already working as a school library media specialist and who is taking more college level library media courses.
Laura Hahn Scholarship- $2,000 for one person, or $1,000 for two people. This scholarship is available to a Washington State resident with a bachelor's degree who has been accepted into a graduate degree program in a library-related field and will spend at least one year working in a Washington State school library after receiving this degree. This scholarship requires an additional application form: Laura Hahn Application.
Eleanor Ahlers Scholarship for Professional Development- $2,000 This grant will be given to a resident of Washington State who is an experienced school library media specialist, and who is working toward an advanced degree, or who is doing planned individual research or a study at the graduate level. This scholarship requires an additional application form: Eleanor Ahlers Application.
Sharon Bates Professional Growth Scholarship - $500 for one or $250 for two This award is available to a WLMA member and practicing school library media specialist who attends a national conference, workshop, or course(s) ($500 level) or two WLMA members and practicing school library media specialists who attend a local conference ($250 level), workshop or course. This scholarship requires an additional application form: Sharon Bates Application.
Denny Bond Library Para-professional Award- $1000 for one or $500 for two This award is available to a Washington state school library para-professional to attend a national conference, workshop, or course ($1000 level), or two school library para-professionals to attend a local conference, workshop, or course ($500 level). John Stanford Memorial WLMA Scholarship- $1,000 This scholarship is available to a Washington state resident who is working toward a library media endorsement or graduate degree in the library field and who will work or is working in a school library. The applicant must be an ethnic minority. Note: Another scholarship of a similar name is offered by WLMA Oz region, for that region's members.

Deadline Deadline for all completed applications above is April 10, 2008. For further information, contact the current WLMA Scholarship chair. Applications must be sent to the address listed in step 9 of the Instructions to Scholarship Applicants below.
DO NOT send applications to the WLMA business address. This will prevent meeting the application deadline.
Instructions to Scholarship Applicants
1. Please type the application form or print neatly in black or dark blue ink. Enclose a head shot photo no smaller than 5" x 7". Do not send a Polaroid or slide.
2. All applicants must fill out the General Scholarship Application. Applicants for the Laura Hahn, Eleanor Ahlers, Denny Bond or Sharon Bates scholarships must also fill out the special application forms for these awards.
3. Applicants for the Laura Hahn or Eleanor Ahlers scholarships should be sure that they have been accepted to a graduate program in a school of librarianship or school of education with specialization in school media.
4. Transcripts of all college grades must be received by the scholarship committee no later than April 10. Please request your transcripts early. Please double-check with your institution to make sure your transcripts have been sent by the deadline. (Applicants for the Sharon Bates and Denny Bond scholarships need not send transcripts).
5. Please arrange to have two letters of recommendation sent to the committee. One should be from your principal, superintendent, teacher, or employer. The second should be from a professional librarian in your community, college, or school. Double check to confirm that your recommendation letters have been sent.
6. All applicants must be sure to fill out the section of the application form dealing with their financial need. This is an important consideration for an award.
7. The scholarship money may be used at the school of your choice.
8. Deadline for all completed applications is April 10.
