ALA BOOK AWARDS

The American Library Association ( ALA) gives many book awards

 
  • Newbery Award - honors the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
  • Caldecott Award - honors the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
  • Coretta Scott King Award (CSK Award) - which honors African-American authors and illustrators.
  • Michael L. Printz Award - for excellence in literature for young adults.
  • Laura Ingalls Wilder Award - honors an author or illustrator whose books, published in the United States, have made, over a period of years, a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children.
  • The Pura Belpre Award - honors a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth. Awarded biennially.
  • Margaret A. Edwards Award - which honors an author?s lifetime contribution to young adult literature.
  • Robert F. Sibert Award - honoring information books for children.
  • Mildren L. Batchelder Award - honors the importance of good books for children in translation from all parts of the world.
  • May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture Award - awarded to an author, critic, librarian, historian, or teacher of children's literature, of any country, who shall prepare a paper considered to be a significant contribution to the field of children's literature.
  • Andrew Carnegie Medal - honors outstanding video productions for children released during the previous year.
  • Alex Award Winners - honors ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18.
  • Odyessey Award for audiobooks
