Gene Tagaban’s passion for his topics shines through in his polished, powerful yet playful manner of engaging participants. Believing that learning and laughter go hand-in-hand, he educates and entertains through a skillful blend of knowledge, humor, examples, stories, discussion, and activities. His very “real” and genuine approach often turns even the most reluctant attendees into eager participants. And he’s not afraid to get personal. By openly sharing his traditions, culture and past experiences with the training topics, Gene helps participants identify and laugh at their own faults while simultaneously sparking in them a desire to improve. Gene Tagaban, an accomplished and gifted speaker, storyteller, actor, dancer, musician and trainer. His heritage is Cherokee, Tlingit and Filipino. He is of the Tak’deintaan Raven Freshwater Sockeye clan of Hoonah, Alaska, and the Child of a Wooshkeetaan Eagle Shark clan of Juneau, Alaska. Gene has twenty years experience as a trainer, motivator, speaker and performing artist. Gene has uniquely integrated his interpersonal skills, Native American heritage and performance artistry with traditional training and counseling techniques to develop inspirational and results-oriented performances, presentations and personal growth workshops with individuals and groups of all ages. Gene’s performance, speaking and workshops engage the imagination and connect the audience with the possibility of empowerment, leadership, communication, relationship, diversity, spirit and honor. Gene has worked with schools, universities, reservations, villages, corporations, government and mainstream organizations. Gene was presented with the Whatcom County’s Peace Builders Award, featured presenter for Seattle’s Ethnic Heritage Council's Naturalization Ceremony, featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival, and played a lead role in Sherman Alexie’s “The Business of Fancydancing.” |

Paul Zelinsky is the illustrator of many popular and award-winning books
for children, a number of which he also wrote or adapted. Known
for the versatility of his style, his various books are sometimes well
known to readers who may not realize that they come from the same
artist. Perhaps his best-known work is the movable book, The
Wheels on the Bus, which has sold more than three million copies
worldwide. His retelling of Rapunzel won the Caldecott
Medal in 1998 for its Renaissance style oil paintings.
His most recent books are The Shivers in the Fridge, a story by Fran Manushkin about a family of refrigerator magnets and the award-winning Toys Go Out, a chapter book by Emily Jenkins. With almost a million books in print, Sharon G. Flake is one of the most popular young adult authors in the country. Her work is used in elementary school through college and has been translated into French and Italian. She has garnered many awards for her work, including two Coretta Scott King awards and numerous others. Her work is used with gifted students as well as struggling readers and special education students, while also being read by adults in book clubs across the nation. Sharon has a new book coming out in February 2010. It is a collection of short stories and poems about boys. | |

Chris Crutcher is a 62 year-old therapy consultant and award winning
young adult novelist known for his realistic fiction and unflinching
authenticity. Thanks to a skillful balance of humor and
heartbreak, his story telling has touched millions of readers, both
young and old, regardless of gender. But a frequent undercurrent
of athletic themes make Crutcher books favorites among hard to please
young men. In addition to his more traditional awards, Crutcher proudly embraces his standing as a top ten banned books author. He speaks at conferences, universities, libraries and public schools more than 200 days a year to enthusiastic audiences across the United States and around the world, including Russia, Italy, Germany, Poland, Singapore, China and Hong Kong. However, Crutcher makes his home in Spokane, Washington. |

Sarah Ryan | Sara is the author of two young adult novels (YA), both of which won the Oregon Book Award for young adult fiction. She has also authored and co-authored several comic books. |

Brandon Mull | Brandon Mull has worked as a comedian, a filing clerk, a patio installer, a movie promoter, a copywriter, and briefly as a chicken stacker. His favorite job is writing fiction, partly because making up elaborate lies has always come naturally. He travels the county visiting schools, promoting literacy, and sharing his message that "Imagination Can Take You Places." |

Kelly Milner Halls | Kelly Milner Halls found her niche and her voice as a nonfiction children's writer when she learned to embrace her inner geek. After writing more than 1,600 articles and book reviews for publications including Booklist, Book Links, Bookpage, the Chicago Tribune, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Denver Post, Highlights for Children, Guidepost for Kids, Dig, Ask, Teen PEOPLE and dozens of other magazines, she moved into the world on nonfiction books with a quirky edge. Children and educators responded whole heartedly to what Halls refers to as, "the wonders of weird." She does regular school and library visits along with conference presentations and lives in Spokane, Washington. |
